# What’s next

Several indicators and tools are currently being studied and developed. They can be grouped into two main categories:

## Data - Transformation

Several approaches to better capture user hedge characteristics are under investigation, including:

- Splitting hedges based on interface changes (crop changes, land-use changes)
- Splitting hedges when a metric crosses a threshold (e.g. height differences)

## Metrics and models

- Adding metrics that characterize hedge bases, such as the presence of ditches and embankments  
- Developing models to characterize the role of hedges, including hydrological functions, wind effects, and more
